For issues related to Apple Java 6 on Mac, contact Apple Support. Adding the slash seems to tell Safari not to make that assumption, and at least for some people, this results in Safari falling back to what seems like the old behavior. For Mac OS X 10.6 and below, use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java 6 for your Mac. The point that seems to be getting missed is that Mac OS X Safari 6 and above have a combined search/address field, and so while typing something in this field, for example "apple" would be resolved by Safari to "" in previous versions, it now defaults to assuming that you want to search Google (or your preferred search service) for the term "apple". Along with Mountain Lion, Apple has begun to roll out updates for several of its core Mac OS X apps, including Safari 6.
